Tonight is the costume party and some strange creatures were walking by. Tomorrow is the Lagoon cocktail party and Friday the farewell dinner. PHEEWWWW. Social stress :-) We skip this one tonight!

Smell check

Image
The parcel received with the new lids. Thanks to Andi, Tanja and Kirsten for sending it! I installed one and it stopped to smell ugly in the boat. GREAT. Also thanks for Lagoon and Siggi Straub for sending them for free! The new ones are softer but still more stable. So they are less likely to crack like the one one to the lift on the above picture.

Checks

After safetycheck today there was a rig check done by "Jerry the Rigger". He checked really everything and was happy with our boat. He said that it was one of the view without any issue. Nice to hear. He just gave us the hint to tape of all the safetyrings that hold the cables to the stanchions. This i have done today. Thomas from Istec checked the Parasailor and i did the position report check for the boat. Tomorrow there will be one last hose replaced at the engine and then the engine check.

Shopping nightmare

Image
This morning it was raining heavily. The water looks like what we usually pump over board from the toilet. The reason is that in our basin an overflow channel from the local sewage system is coming out. YUCK! Then the truck from Corte Ingles arrived and we started provisioning the boat. Now it is 16.30 and still not everything is stowed away. Our boat is heavy like hell and so i guess we will only do a little over 2 knots :-) Then i was in a seminar about the radio communications and net control and i volunteered as a net controller. Jerry the Rigger checked our rig and i was happy that all was OK since i have done that before myself.

Engine service Yanmar 3YM30

Image
Today Pedro came to service the engines. The last real service has been done in Holland in the Flevomarina 250 hours ago. In between there was only oil and Impeller change. The current Impellers (these are the wheels in the pump which produce the waterflow for cooling the engines) were in there for more than a year while the boat was out of the water. One Impeller still looked perfect and the other one had a crack so it was good to change them both. The one that was still OK i keep as a spare. Also every 1000hours or 4 years the mixing elbows should be changed. First i was a bit hesitant but then i agreed. So Pedro ordered the parts and came today. He also installed the speedseal covers so it is easier to remove the lid to change the impeller since in the future this will be my task. He showed me corrosion at the mixing elbow on the portside engine and so it was really time to change the mixing elbow. Also the Saildrive Oil was changed as much as you can get out while the boat is in th...

Last Monday before the crossing

Image
Hi, yesterday i changed the reef line of reef 1. A reef is when you make the sailarea smaller because there is to much wind. So it is an important safety feature. The old line was chafed through as you can see on the picture. Good, that we found that out before the crossing. This morning went to El Corte Ingles for the first part of the shopping and spent 2.5h in getting food for the Atlantic crossing. We spent 522,67 Euro for that and the shopping list was more than 1m long. And this is without fruit or meat, which will come shortly before the crossing. Lets see if we can compile a food list later :-) I have just glued the hole in the Parasailor and got some good tips from Thomas Wibberenz from Istec even though we used that sails already for 4 or 5 years. Now the engines are next in the loop. Lets see....
