How to set up Pactor HF SSB Email amateur radio 2

Image
Here you can see the vertical whip on the left side of this picture. It is mounted slightly tilted backwards and fixed also to the aft stanchions. Here you can see the supporting fixpoint. The Tuner is then mounted as close as possible to the hot wire of the antenne. I have mounted it near the motor compartment where the conencting rod of both rudders is running.

How to set up Pactor HF SSB Email amateur radio 1

Of course you need a radio first. This itself has been discussed on the internet ample times. If you do not care about money then i strongly advise to go for a professional radio like ICOM 710 or 802. Otherwise the cheapest option is an IC-718 from ICOM. I decided to go for the 706 since i want to use also VHF and UHF maybe and i can seperate the control from the backbox and it is neat and i know how to use it. It might not be the best choice though You also need a PACTOR modem if you want to use email. The box on top of the power supply is a Pactor USB modem from SCS in Germany. If you think about updating blogs via HF on the ocean you should directly go for the software upgrade to Pactor III, which is just a license key that needs to be entered. As you can see i have build up everything at home prior to the boat installation. By that you make sure that you know how it works and all cabling etc is proper. Why fumble around on the boat with basic things when you can try it out at home...

New battery and inverter

Image
And additonal 140Ah battery is installed and a 2000W 220V Inverter plus a BTM III battery meter all from Mastervolt.

AIS Installation Equipment update

Image
I decided to install a weatherdock EasyAIS with a splitter. It will display the AIS targets on the plotters. Due to the baudrate i was happy to have the second plotter since i switched that port to the corresponding baud rate. Check the MANY MANY AIS-Targets. When there are good conditions the max distance was over a hundred miles.

Toilet problems

Image
Nasty topic. Due to the higher holding tank the so called joker valve is leaking the "liquids" back into the bowl if the boat is not used for a while. These smells ugly and leaves stains behind. It seems there is no real solution for that.

The name is there...

Since it was warm enough to now put the letters LinoCat on the stern Ruediger helped me in doing. Also we went to Enkhuizen and had a night stay there. Cute little Kiddy boat as a tender... Two cats meet each other. Of course we let him go longside. The family had their daughter and her friends and they partied all night but thats OK :-) Here you can see LINOCAT in nice big blue Letter. Mannheim the homeport is on the starboard side

Stavoren with Ruediger and Claudia

Image
Hi, since the weatherforecast was nice we decided to go on a weekendtrip with Ruediger and Claudia and decided to first visit Stavoren. The Parasailor was also used again. We also visited Oude Schild a non Marina emergency harbour whith some yachting industry. Ruediger and Claudia sitting on the lee side. In Stavoren. Notice the liftraft is not there yet, also the Dinghy is missing and even the LinoCat letter at the sugarscoops.

First time NorthSea

Image
During the 35th, 26th and 27th it was the first time that we got out of the Ijsselmeer and to the Northsea with all the tide and current and ships and islands etc. It was a nice experience even though the weather was not to nice. The lock has a normal chamber and then this draw bridge which not really "drawing :-)" but turning Big things cross your way on the north sea.

Official christianing ceremony

Image
Today was the official christianing ceremony with parents and my brother and his kids, etc. Family had fun enjoying the cruise The parasailor was alsu used again in light wind this time. Here you can see the "sock" in which it is held

Der Parasailor ist da

Image
Our Parasailor2 arrived today. With a guy from the deliverycompany ISTEC we did a testsail and we were more than happy. we reached 10knots and what more can you ask for on 38feet catamaran. These days that would not be possible due to the weight we added to the boat.

1st Sundowner in the net

First Management meeting on LinoCat

Image
The first mishap happened on the boat. the warm water boiler leaked because a hoseclamp was not tightened properly at the factory. So all warmwater ended up in the bilge. Today Markus, Marc and Frank visited LinoCat and we discussed about our future plans and ideas.

Epirb installed

Image
Hi, today i have installed the ACR GlobalFix 406 EPIRB. It includes a GPS, so that we can be found (hopefully) if we have to call for emergency assistance. And it is my birthday i just realized :-) The EPIRB is registered with the MMSI number 211152550 Our callsign by the way is DB3049 not to be mixed up with my amateur radio callsign DB8US.

Cold sailing

Image
It was freezing cold well below 0 Celcius but we were so enthusiastic that of course we went out for a daysail.

On the way to Stavoren

Image
It was a lot about practising setting the sails and getting them down etc. But we must have done a good joob since the sun came out and it was a nice and smooth ride.

Fun Fun Fun

Image
Nothing beats a good coffee. Andreas, Chris and myself enjoying the diesel-heating aboard the boat.

Lemmer

Image
LinoCat in Lemmer. There were not many boats on the Ijsselmeer these days. Traffic from commercial ships was there of course. It was quite exciting to meet the first "real" ships and think of right of way etc. It was also a good training to visualize them on the radar.

FIRST TRIP

Image
Tonight was the first night on the boat. Temperature around the freezing point. Nevertheless we went out and Andreas Blauscha gave a very nice introduction about this catamaran.

The mast is up

Image
Here at the FLEVO MARINA in Lelystad the mast has been put up. Unfortunatly i was in India at that time :-(

On the way to the Netherlands

Image
LinoCat is on its way to the netherlands via the Rhine river and the Netehrlands.

Waiting for warmer weather

Image
We are waiting for warmer weather in the marina of Duesseldorf at the Rhine river.

LinoCat getting WET the first time !!!

Image
LinoCat went into the water today. The pictures are in reverse order so here you see him swimming. YES; LinoCat is not female but a MALE boat :-) The huge crane in Duesseldorf with the adjustable legs. Amazing. This lift can lift up to 700tons. A small ceremony before the boat is put into the water. Behind me you can see Siggi Traub from Traub-Yachting, the german distributor. LinoCat arrives for the crane...

Preparation at the BOOT-SHOW in Duesseldorf

Image
At the BOOT in Duesseldorf LinoCat was displayed. Also there were some additions made like the electronics. The boat was brought via landtransport. Here you see LinoCat with the Lagoonflag in the exhibition hall. It just fitted with a total height of around 18m. One of the Raymarine E120 plotters fitted on the outside helm station. The second one is on the inside helm station. Here you can see the cabin layout of the Lagoon 380.
